News: Hull Thunder have signed Canadian Import Darby Walker and beaten Super League giants Nottingham and Newcastle to the punch....! At 6'4 and weighing in at 225lbs, the former Newcastle Riverkings right winger is the last import signing before coach Don Depoe's new look side take to the ice. Newcastle wanted the player to return to the North East....Walker wanted to team up with his old College hockey coach and opted to come to Hull. "It's great news for the Thunder." said Depoe "I'm confident that Darby willscore lots of goals and be a key figure in the team as the season progresses." The 25 year, who has played in Holland and in the Western Hockey League in North America commented. "A few club's have been in touch wanting me to play for them, including Superleaguers, but I decided to sign for Hull because I think they are on the brink of exciting times. "Sure I could have played in the Super League but I know that playing British National League hockey isn't a step down, it's a solid move for me at this stage in my career." Walker has signed up on a one year contract and will link up with fellow countryman Scott Stephenson and GB international Kevin Conway in a Thunder side that has lots of offensive potential.

News: National League Hull Thunder have re-signed Finish import Esa Nurmi for the forthcoming season... after the forward impressed coach Don Depoe with some gutsy displays at the back end of last season. The 29 year old left winger was forced to fill in for injured team mates and was played out of position in defence during his stay at the Hull Arena last time around. But coach Don Depoe, having filled all of his blue line places, has handed Nurmi the chance to shine in front of the net at the other end of the rink. He said...." Esa is the sort of player that works hard and I saw that last season - if he does the same this year, he will be a valuable addition to the squad. I know he has good skills, clever hands and skates hard ..but then you'd expect that from someone who grew up playing hockey from a very young age back home in Finland. " Nurmi commented..." I'm really thrilled to be back in Hull and I think the fans will see something different from me this season. I didn't really get the chance to play in my best position before. "We've got a good team with good players and I'm sure we'll do very well in the league and that's why I want to be part of what I'm sure will be exciting times ahead for the Thunder. It's great to be back ...!"

News: The Thunder will get their National League programme underway with the toughest start possible as they play Basingstoke and Guildford within 24 hours of each other. Coach Don Depoe does not have long to wait before coming up against his former charges, the Bison, as the Thunder make the journey down South for their first BNL fixture. That is on Saturday September 25th and Don says he can't wait. "Well there's nothing like returning quickly to an old hunting ground. I'm sure I will enjoy the occasion and meet up with a few old friends - but although it will be nice to see some familiar faces, my top priority is coming away with a victory. After all, that's what we play this game for, that's to win and victory in the first league game of the season will be vital for us." he said. Then just 24 hours later, The Thunder open up their home campaign against the big spending Flames at the Hull Arena. Again Depoe thinks that it will be a game that the fans will want to see. "Guildford will be up there amongst the best this season and it will be a great chance for our fans to see just what we have in store for them this season. It's a tough opening weekend but you have to play the Flames sometime, so it really doesn't matter too much when. Infact in funny sort of way it couldn't be better because the boys will know that they have to open up at full intensity from the off." he commented. The matches throw up some intriguing personal clashes, with Paul Thompson, Scott Stephenson and Mark Palister all in action against the Guildford side that they played for last time round, while Kevin Conway 'Goes Home..!' for the match at Basingstoke. Returning to the club with whom he made his name, for the first time since leaving them.
